12 May 2019 Opening soon
Following two successful Trackstars, ‘We Run They Run I Run’ present Eastbourne Trackstar Marathon III! By choosing something we’d quite like to have a go at ourselves, we are hoping to appeal to like minded runners, who want to run a challenging but fun marathon on a standard 400 metre athletics track. “That’s a lot of laps!” I hear you say. “Yes,” we say, “105 laps and 195 metres to be precise!”
To help us, we are using the chip timing services of our friends at Nice Work, who organise and provide services to well over 100 UK runs. Nice Work are responsible for timing, and letting you know when you have finished, you must have your own method for counting laps.

The facility includes toilets, changing areas and showers. You are welcome to leave bags in the club room but these will not be monitored so please don’t leave valuables.
There is a free car park at Eastbourne Sports Park.
Registration will be indoors at Eastbourne Sports Park. Please come through the main entrance. The building, and therefore registration will not open until 8:30am. Numbers and chips are collected on the day. Final instructions will be emailed in the week before the event.
There are toilets accessible from outdoors, a short distance from the track, please use these during the run. There are also toilets, changing rooms and showers indoors.
This one’s quite easy to remember. Starting 5 metres in front of the 200 metre start line, you will complete 195 metres followed by 105 full 400 metre laps! The run is in the usual anti-clockwise direction. There is no direction change.
If you need to leave the track at any point please do so and rejoin at the designated point.
Information & Brieifng
Final instructions will be emailed in the week before the event.
The run will start at 9:30am. The run briefing will be 10 minutes before the start outside of the building adjacent to the track. It is important you listen to the briefing in case of any changes or specific information. This event will be held under UK Athletics rules, a license has been applied for. The adjudicators decision is final.
Timing & Lap Counting
The experts from Nice Work will be providing chip timing. Their role is timing, and to look out for runners on their 105th lap and advise them when they’ve finished.
Lap counting is your responsibility. There are a number of options from bringing someone with you, to tally counters, elastic bands or simply using the lap button on your watch.
Do not rely on GPS. It is not accurate on the track and can over or under read!
Read our post about lap counting here.
Please bear in mind you will all be running at different speeds! We ask that you are considerate to all other participants, and just because someone isn’t going as fast as you, doesn’t mean they’re not on course for their own goal. Everyone has a right to the racing line when running, overtaking is on the right, it’s all part of the challenge! If you need to walk at any point, please move to the outer lanes.
Water will be available each lap from our aid station set up near the 100 metre start, adjacent to lane 6, off the racing line.
Personal Aid Stations
Runners can set up their own personal aid station on a table along the back straight. This must be adjacent to lane 6, off the racing line.
St John Ambulance will be in attendance on the day.
Please read the information on the Runner’s Medical Resource website. It is the most useful advice we have found on the subject.
We welcome spectators, they can even help you count your laps! Tea, coffee and home made cake will be on sale for spectators and they can enjoy the themed music playlist. Please take care when crossing the track, do not gather around the runners toilets or the timing point. Please refrain from running alongside participants on the home straight as it makes it difficult for our timers. If you are bringing dogs to the sports park, please keep them on leads at all times, and well away from the track.
At the finish collect your bespoke medal, and bask in the glory that you have just done something very few people ever will! Go and collect your free tea or coffee. Home made cake will also be on sale!
£35 or £33 for UKA licensed runners.
Entry is provided Nice Work!
When you enter you will be subscribed to our mailing list. We recommend you stay on this list to receive your pre-run emails.
- Does Trackstar count for Good For Age qualification?
We can’t make that guarantee. It is unlikely. London require your qualifying marathon to be run on road. Other marathons have different schemes. Trackstar is held under a Run Britain MT (multi terrain) licence. Despite our efforts UKA / Run Britain/ England Athletics will not issue a road license because the surface is Polytan rather than Tarmac, even though the spirit of the run is a road race!!
The following details may help when asking the organiser of the marathon you wish to use your Trackstar time for; Trackstar is run under a UKA / Run Britain MT licence. Details of Eastbourne’s track certification can be found here. Trackstar is chip timed with a professional system provided by Nice Work, with manual counting as a backup.
- Can I get a refund, defer or swap to anther event?
Unfortunately we are not able to refund, defer or swap your entry to another event. We do allow you to give your place to someone else, though you must let us know in advance.
The small scale of the event means it is very expensive per runner to put on. As an organiser we start to incur costs for the event from the moment the dates are booked. As the event draws closer ever increasing costs are incurred to the point where we cannot recover any of them, regardless of whether you run.
